4 Reasons to Never Give Up on Your Dreams

“Never, never, never give up.” – Winston Churchill

I am a positive person by nature. At least I try to be. One who is not easily swayed by challenges or obstacles in my way.

But I am only human. And there are still days that I want to give up. I want to throw in the towel and not worry about working toward my dreams and goals. But I don’t.

Why? 4 Reasons to Never Give Up on Your Dreams

Because even though my goals and dreams seem like they are still out of reach, I believe in myself enough to keep at them. I know that with hard work and persistence, I can do anything.

Because I am showing my daughter what can be done when you work at something with all of your might.

And I know I won’t be fulfilled if I don’t pursue my passion. And life is too dang short to not pursue your passion.

I know that as a busy mom in all varieties it is really easy to feel overwhelmed. To feel like your dreams/goals are not worth pursuing because it seems like it is so far out of reach. Or maybe even because you now have the role of mom, your kids should come before you and your goals.

While your kids are incredibly important, pursuing your dream is not selfish. It is actually loving toward yourself and it teaches your kids valuable lessons about hard work and sacrifice.

So, if you are feeling like you want to give up on your goals, then here are 4 reasons why you should never give up on a dream that is important to you.

4 Reasons to Never Give Up on Your Dream

1. Life is About Commitment, Not Talk

I have dreams that have lived in my imagination for quite some time, whereas others are newer. When I was first toying with the idea of dedicating myself to my dreams and trying to make them a reality, it was scary.

First, because it had become almost comfortable to have my dreams live in my imagination.

Second, my dreams are overly ambitious. Well, not to me, but to others, yes.

Third, I have a lot of naysayers in my life. Even family members that don’t believe in me or my ability to achieve my dreams.

But I realized that I can think and talk about my dreams all day long, but that is not going to make it become a reality. So, I committed to putting them into practice.

2. Giving Up Can Become a Habit

It is never easy to pursue your dreams. It will be fraught with challenges and obstacles. Sometimes because of other people. Sometimes because of you. And sometimes because that is the nature of life.

If you get in the habit of giving up when the going gets tough and what matters the most to you, then you are more likely to give up every time things don’t go the way that you hoped.

If you give up, then you won’t learn persistence. And everything worthwhile requires persistence.

Even small steps toward your dreams take you one step closer to accomplishing them.

3. You Learn Resilience and Adaptation

Whenever you are trying to put your dreams and goals into action, there will be challenges, disappointments, setbacks, and failures.

These aren’t meant to be avoided. They are actually good for you. There is so much to learn from the challenges, disappointments, setbacks, and failures you will face on your way.

You will learn what not to do.

You will learn how to adapt and be flexible.

You will learn critical lessons that could only be learned from these hardships.

There is incredible value in failure. Failure should not be feared or avoided. It should be embraced. Because it means you are that much closer to success.

I have experienced many setbacks and hurdles in the pursuit of my dreams. Some small. Some odd. Some seemingly insurmountable. But every time I have figured out how to get past it. Not always fast. But I get through it.

As an example of a hurdle, there have been times in building my online business where I haven’t been able to use a laptop or a computer because of internet issues. So, I have been forced by my mobile phone to work on what I need too.

I can actually do most projects on my phone. Some aren’t possible and I have to wait until a computer is available to me. But the ones that I can do are tricky and a little more tedious on a tiny screen. But definitely doable.

4. Self-Belief is Everything

Giving up on your goals is in essence giving up on yourself.

You are a unique person with your own strengths and talents.

You have dreams that are wanting to be realized.

And only you can make your dream happen in your own specific way.

Final Thoughts

I am still fighting tooth and nail to make my dreams happen. I am getting closer and closer to making them a reality. Every bit of progress is adding up.

I have learned that believing in yourself is a must because you might fond that believes in you or thinks you have gone crazy because your dream is not their dream.

I have learned that it is more important to walk the walk rather than talk the talk. Because that only gets you so far or nowhere.

I have learned from observing others that giving up is easier and before you know it, giving up is all you do.

I have learned that through failure you learn how to adapt and become resilient.

You are capable of accomplishing amazing things. Your dreams are worthy to be realized. So go make them happen. You got this.

  1. Hi Amanda,

I must say that this is a wonderfully written article.

I’m working towards a big dream myself and the toughest part is having consistent belief in the uncertainty while having people doubting the dream.

I’ve learnt plenty during my journey and there are changes that I had to adapt to as well. One of the things I learnt was to also celebrate the small wins.

Thank you for writing an amazing piece.

    Cheers.

    • Hi SAM. Thank you for your insights. I am totally with you. It is hard to work and fight for a dream all the while believing in yourself and not letting the doubters get to you. Celebrating small wins is crucial. Some people have this notion that you should only celebrate a win that is big and monumental. And although it is important to celebrate those wins, they don’t happen all the time. Plus, a win is a win, no matter how small and deserves to be celebrated in some way.

  2. I love this. So funny because I just posted a short tweet a while ago saying something to this effect. Great minds do think alike :). Great read. What do you feel has been the most challenging thing for people who do want to quit and give up?

    • Hi AJ. That’s awesome. 🙂 Thank you for your kind words. In response to your question, I believe that the most challenging thing for people who do want to quit and give up is to not actually quit and give up. Trying to find the courage to not give up is quite a feat. It is easy to give up on your dreams, especially when you are the only one who believes you can do it and the odds are not in your favor. It is so much harder to keep fighting for your dreams, especially if you want to quit and give up. Don’t quit. Don’t give up. Your dreams are totally 100% worth it.

  3. Thank you for the positive article. These are challenging times with covid 19, mass job loss and a president that doesn’t seem to care, not to get political. Staying positive is a daily challenge and is about mindset. I have to tell myself regularly that I am in charge of my attitude.

    • Hi Wes. Thank you for your comment. When there are extra challenges in one’s life or in the world, it can be hard to stay positive. But even in the darkest of times, there is always something good to be found. A silver lining. The trick is to find it. Sometimes, you can’t see the silver lining until way after the challenge is passed.

  5. Many-many years ago I was told that some people become successful by searching until they find a way for something to be done, while others search and find-excuses for not doing it.
It is the same with dreams. Some people will do their best to find a way to make them true, even if the road is winding and bumpy, while the others will say it’s impossible anyway, and give up.
I can certainly say you belong to the first ones. Well done!

  6. Absolutely so important to never give up on that dream and to do whatever we can to achieve those dreams and goals we have set for yourselves. What can be achieved is only limited by our thinking.
