Do you ever look in your pantry, fridge, and/or freezer and wonder what you could possibly make from all the odds and ends in there?
Or you are just plain sick of eating the same 5 things because although they are tasty and easy and your family likes them, which all a plus, you need more variety in your life. But you don’t want to have to make any additional trips to the grocery store because you want to use up what you already have.
There are several websites out there that will help you find recipes with ingredients that you already have on hand. No additional grocery trips required. Here is how to find recipes using ingredients you already have.
How to Find Recipes Using Ingredients You Already Have
SuperCook is a website, but there is an app that you can use as well. There are several categories that you can choose from. And within those categories, you can pick from individual ingredients.
As you select the ingredients, recipes will pop up. Under the recipe, it will tell you which ingredients you have to make the dish or what ingredient(s) are missing to make the dish. You can specify certain diet restrictions if you want, such as gluten-free or vegan. And only dishes that meet those dietary needs will pop up.
You can also select if you want a certain cuisine to be pulled or a meal type. You can also choose one of the ingredients that you selected to be the main ingredient.
You can sign up for a free account so you can save all of your favorite recipes.
On the main screen of MyFridgeFood, it shows you the quick kitchen. This is a list of ingredients that most everyone will have in their pantry. So, you can select these ingredients and have recipes show up.
Or you can see all of the ingredients. This is a fairly intensive list. Obviously the more ingredients you choose, the more complete recipes you will see. Recipes that don’t have missing ingredients.
Also, the more ingredients the more recipes, in general, will show up. (This goes for all of these websites/apps.) So, don’t be overwhelmed.
You can sign up for a free account on this website as well in order to bookmark your favorite recipes. Or if you don’t have time to go through all the recipes, you can save the ones that seem the most interesting.
I have used all of the websites on this list and like them all for different reasons. But My Fridge Food is how I discovered my new favorite thing, salsa rice. It is literally what it sounds like, salsa and rice.
Easy-peasy. And oh how tasty. Seriously, I would never have put those two things together, but now that I have discovered it, I’m not sure I can eat rice another way again.
3. Fridge to Table
Fridge to Table is more simplistic than the other websites. You can choose ingredients that are the most popular, think cheese, rice and potatoes to name a few from a drop-down menu. Otherwise you have to type in the ingredient yourself, which is slightly tedious.
They do have diet options but exclude gluten-free which personally I think is a little strange. (But maybe this is because I have to eat gluten-free).
What I do like is that I can choose the cooking time, so I can find recipes that cook in 15 minutes or less. I also like the fact that I filter by the source where the recipes are found, such as good housekeeping or serious eats.
4. Food Combo
Food Combo is a little different than the other websites. You can only choose up to 15 ingredients from the list of ingredients they provide on the home page.
Once you choose your ingredients it shows you what you can make listed by cuisine. So let’s say it shows that you can make breakfast and brunch. You would click on the icon and it will bring up the recipes.
Down the page, it shows you the individual ingredients that you choose and will give you tips and information about the ingredient. If you click on that individual ingredient, it will show you all the recipes for that specific ingredient. Each recipe will then tell you what additional ingredients are needed.
I like how you are given information about each ingredient. I don’t like how you are limited to how many ingredients you can choose. On the other hand, it would help you from getting too overwhelmed.
All of these websites allow you to find recipes with ingredients you already have on hand. Each of them have differences, but all of them are helpful. Never again will you need to wonder how to put together all of the ingredients you have in your pantry, fridge, or freezer. So, the next time you need a recipe for a certain set of ingredients, give these websites a try.
